The online portal lets the user add an accountant as an authorized user. Accountant can then pull reports as desired. Always available online is superior to to having a copy on the hard drive like years past.
Connecting the pieces of an invoice to the balances it affects is both cumbersome and muddled. It assumes a degree of accounting expertise that the layperson does not possess. When I called in for support and contrasted the different QBO products, the person helping me insisted that one of the products did not exist! I expected better from QB, given how expensive it is.
I ended up abandoning Quickbooks and migrated to GoDaddy Bookkeeping. Much more intuitive and designed for the layperson, not accountants. I dreaded doing my books when using QB. Now I love looking at my numbers.
The product works for the most part, and it's online, so it is accessible from most locations.
The customer service is very frustrating. The chat function is a bot that attempts to solve customer questions, but it isn't as helpful as a human who can listen and diagnose human questions. The chatbot also doesn't function properly 100% of the time which adds to the frustration. When calling the hotline, there is an automated system similar to the chatbot. It takes a long time, and when a human finally answers, they don't have the decision-making autonomy to help. The reporting function for payroll could use some improvements. When navigating through employee information, you are often prompted to return to the main employee page after leaving a screen so you can't quickly bounce from one employee information page to another.
We used QuickBooks for payroll, but it was not dynamic enough to meet our needs, particularly considering the performance of customer service support, so now we only use QuickBooks for General Ledger.
1 - Payroll automation. Users are glad they are able to run payroll where taxes are calculated automatically and checks are deposited directly. Automated reminders are also very helpful. 2 - Remote access. One of the benefits of cloud computing is that users are able to access their accounting system from wherever they are. It provides them with convenience as well as confidence in a secured online system. And if they manage multiple companies, they can easily switch between companies. 3 - Integration. QuickBooks Online allows for easy integration with banks, credit card companies, and other financial management software. It has REST API that can integrate with other solutions such as ERP to automate postings. 4 - Expense tracking. Users have the option to create rules to make it easier to track expenses. It can be as general or as granular, depending on the user’s needs. They can group things into one broad expense type, or break it down to specifics. 5 - Free-form invoicing. Many users like QBO for its invoicing features, which it does very well. They can create products or services, or enter line items in free form for a specialized service. They find it easy to use and can be shared as links or printed in PDF.
1 - Limited reports. Some customers found that reporting is much better in the desktop version than in the online version. The charts are not customizable, and the report builder is limited. Also, cleaning up outdated reports is time-consuming, and exporting reports to Excel or PDF format is inconsistently reliable. 2 - Difficult to learn their systems. The simple interface does not match with the rich-set features included. Some users complain that it is not as easy to learn compared with other online software. A user finds it overly complicated, unintuitive, and can easily turn into a nightmare if a mistake in the entry is made. Another user suggested that providing a short video tutorial on simple tasks within the current screen would be a big help. 3 - Limited inventory management. QuickBooks Online tends to be problematic in addressing inventory management concerns. It can be solved, however, with third-party software. 4 - Wrong/Missing entries. Some users find it worrisome that the online accounting software sometimes incorrectly uses due dates automatically for their next invoice. At times, when they change a category or department in an invoice, it clears out all data from that invoice, forcing the user to start all over again. 5 - Syncing problems. There have been instances that QBO users experience syncing issues with credit card transactions. It can take a day or two later to sync successfully. A user also complained that the platform seems to go down more frequently than it should be.
1 - For managing company sales and income. QuickBooks allows users to manage sales and income by creating invoices to track sales. Business owners can do this by customer, and know exactly how much each customer owes them. They can look at their accounts receivables report to view the details of current and past due invoices. 2 - For bills and expense tracking. The accounting software can automatically keep track of the company’s bills and expenses. This is done by connecting bank and credit card accounts to the software. As a result, all expenses are downloaded and categorized. Other transactions, such as cash or check transactions, can be directly recorded in the software. 3 - For business reporting. When business owners are recording and managing all cash inflow and outflow activities in QuickBooks, they can generate several reports from the software. These pre-built reports can be run in a few clicks, and are updated in real-time as they enter and save transactions. They can gain valuable business insights from these reports, which they can use when they are negotiating with a potential investor or getting a loan from the local bank. 4 - For payroll. QuickBooks has a payroll function that automatically calculates and runs payroll for the company. Together with payroll tax tables, doing payroll with the accounting software offers the advantage of having an updated financial statement because of the integrated system. For inventory tracking. The accounting software can automatically track and update amounts and unit costs of inventory. Moreover, it has several reports to help manage inventory.
Modern website, seems reasonably user friendly overall
Dark patterns on their website that confuse people about the price to pay. Contacted support, they told me I would get a refund, but that never happened. Tried to get in touch again, the chat was interrupted twice so I had to give up. Just state a clear price upfront, and stop with those silly marketing tricks that only confuse people.
Accounting for small firm
It's thorough: offers payroll with direct deposit, credit card processing, reports, etc. Compatibility with other softwares because it's the most recognized name in accounting software.
Frequently down. Can't access payroll information or direct deposits processed on time didn't process or system maintenance prevents functionality during business hours. The BIGGEST problem with QBO is their complete lack of tech support - it simply doesn't exist. There's no number for quick help, and their chat is staffed with people who struggle so badly to understand the most basic explanation of a problem. You'll waste an hour just helping their chat staff to understand, and by the end of that hour you're so frustrated you want to quit the service (like me). I would pay 3x what I pay if I could have good support. Instead, we're shopping alternatives.
Solving? None. It's filling a need by providing everything we need for invoicing, links to banking and credit cards, payroll with direct deposit, A/R, A/P, contractor setup/PO's/payments, etc. However, when they're down for maintenance (or other issues) midday it's not helpful.
Functionality inside of QBO is good but onboard especially with payroll is horrible.
Onboarding is extremely time-intensive and does not work well. Spent days trying to get QBO payroll setup. Over 20 hours on the phone with support

The software, generally, is well-designed and works pretty well most of the time. They do, occasionally, have issues which require contact with them to resolve, however...
Several times in the last weeks and months (Summer 2020) I've tried to get ANY sort of direct support from QBO. I've spent literally HOURS waiting **unsuccessfully** for an online chat where the heading says, "We'll be with you in 5 minutes." This is mid-week, during business hours! They have no phone support, not an option. If you already have a QBO expert available to you, you are golden, but for anyone who may occasionally require support, you are out of luck!
QBO has simplified day-to-day bookkeeping for our business.
Having payroll taxes calculated automatically and paid with the click of a button.
Setting up payroll took hours and hours. There were so many errors and I had a contact I don't know how many people in customer support before I found anyone who knew what they were doing. Chats and calls were cut off. They need to upgrade their technology and support.
Cash flow planning was a challenge. The planner in Quickbooks helps somewhat to anticipate expenses.
Good software for small businesses but the support is horrible.
Horrible support system. I have been trying to accept an invitation from client but the system freezes. Tried to connect with support several times but they dont know whats causing it. They will keep doing hit and trial and waste hours with no result.
It actually has become a problem in itself
Being able to add your accounting collaborators and some of the automation.
Worst customer service I've experienced with enterprise SaaS platforms.
Book-keeping.
Cheap, integrates with banks and other services
Very buggy, a lot of things glitch. Wasted 2 hours trying to cancel my subscription - even that was not working properly.
Accounting and payroll for small company
the ability to access the account via online as well as phone app was great.
The company's customer service and support is lack luster @ most. There is no clear number to call and they always push you back to online questions even when it is evident that you want to speak to someone due to dissatisfaction. The ONLY time I got a number was when I entered the process to cancel. Here is the transaction about my cancelation process: Here is where we are at.. 1. On the 7th I had a conversation with a person named Janice or Janine via CHAT and we went through the process and she was supposed to cancel the account. This WAS NOT COMPLETED as I was still seeing attempts for you all to charge my card. which lead me to.. 2. On the 16th I had a conversation with Aldrin Dave C via chat whom confirmed for me that the account was NEVER closed by Jannine. He offered to close it as well and process a refund. Then was abruptly disconnected from the chat. 3. I then called support and spoke to Kristen who then told me that I had to pay first and then a refund will be processed. I then asked to speak to a supervisor who then told me the same and I went and updated my billing information SO THAT I can then be refunded. Upon being transferred back to Kristen she told me it would take 1 day and that she has “set a reminder for her to cancel the account the following day and process the refund”. 4. The 17th came I waited until after noon and nothing. No email telling me it was canceled and the account showed as active in QBO. I then got ON THE PHONE AGAIN with Carol. Carol told me it shows as Pending Cancelation and she does not know why. After further dialog with her and on hold multilple times she tells me it will be done midnight. 5. Today the 18th @ 9:00am I checked and STILL SHOWS CANCEL PENDING.. I want this account canceled IMMEADIATELY and refunded the FULL $460.10 I was charged! I am not going to use it and have not used it from even PRIOR to the renewal date. On the 7th I got a backup prior to speaking to Janine. If you would like a copy of the audio files of the calls and chat transcripts please let me know I will be happy to oblige. If this is beyond your scope please forward to someone who is at the level to make this happen. Otherwise I will begin the campaign to notify everyone via my media channels as well as personal channels of this experience with you company. ------ Their response even to this: Thanks for getting back, Marc. My deepest apologies for the unwanted experience you have went through. No worries, I'll look into this and will inform all those representatives involved and send feedback to them. Regarding to your concern I will be investigating as to what have happened. Also, regarding to cancelling the account immediately, to set your expectation, all accounts in Quickbooks Online that are subscribed at some point - when canceled it will not automatically take affect but will be on the next billing date but I'll try to check with our Senior product specialist if they can do something about this. However please don't keep your hopes up as I might not do justice to it. For the mean time, please take care.
My business' need for a accounting software that included invoicing on a regular basis but the amount would vary.
You can create invoices easily but they’ll keep the payments your client send you for completely made up reasons.
Absolute trash. I’ve been lied to 13 times in 4 businesss days. DO NOT USE THEM. I am absolutely moving to another accounting system tomorrow. Their “support” people make up “policies” at free will.
Nothing anymore.
There is nothing good about them. Nothing.
Customer service: awful. They fraudulently do not you cancel. The software is not appropriate for my type of business. Their service is flatly incompetent. For a big company, they are extraordinarily unprofessional.
It has impacted my work in that it has wasted 10+ of my time in sorting through their mess. Trying to get access to my own account, to no avail. Trying to cancel, to no avail. Big waste of time.
I have been using it since 2014. Used to use the desktop version of it. In the early years, there were a lot of bugs they couldn't figure out how to solve as they outsourced it to a developer. Now, the customer service line and the technical support has improved and the customer service can answer most of the technical problems without going through several hoops.
I absolutely despise their customer service. From the bottom line to all the way to the top. I had some ongoing issues that persisted from the very beginning of the service history. As time and technology have evolved, it ended up being a very simple solution as clearing cache. If it was that simple, why wouldn't they suggest it and I tried? I spent hours and hours to solve this issue. From the very bottom to the top line managers (president's office), they are so used to give a lie and made my life hell for about 3.5 years until it got resolved. (Who in the right mind would do that? I don't have all the time in the world to deal with such petty cause to fight with Intuit). Not only that, they made a spin as if I were the one who made up the issue and has been giving them a hard time, let along apologizing all the inconvenience I've experienced. If this was a retail store, they would have closed down a long time ago. The issue was resolved, but it made a long negative impression for their horrible treatment of their customers.
Quick and convenient access to my business finances.
Some good features, but when they hold you hostage to upgrade, what good are they?
I purchased a software product that I expected to work until I was ready to upgrade. 2.5 years later, it stops working (importing QBO files), and you try to sell me a new version for $299. You should stand behind your products and if MS changes TLS, you should offer free patches. I've been a QB user for ~15 years, but I'm done. If you add new features that I want, then it's MY choice to upgrade. You are a horrible company to hold your customers hostage like that. I've already found another financial software product. I'll be sure to share my experience with everyone. I found another product so I don't have to be extorted by Intuit.

The only good thing about Quickbooks Online is that links automatically to your bank, but then again, that feature is not unique. For anyone considering moving from Quickbooks Desktop to Quickbooks Online, consider that the process will not be simple, and once you move your data, Quickbooks may change pricing policies at a moment's notice. The functionality is also more restrictive. It is simply a poorly designed product and the support staff often struggle to understand why it does not work.
I recently decided to convert from an old version of Quickbooks desktop to Quickbooks online. The experience was horrible. I have spent probably 20 hours on the phone with their support staff because things simply dont work on their platform. First, the conversion of data would simply not work. It took 4 different support people and hours of attempts to finally have them shut the account and start over from scratch. No reason it would not work, just a glitch. Second, there have been multiple things that just did not work. The connection to Wells Fargo started inputting deposits as expenses, and I had to manually correct them. The state tax deposits would not work electronically, so I once again had to get support to fix it. And then the ultimate insult is that they changed their pricing policy and doubled the previously discounted price after one month. Their pricing policy seems to be bait and switch. I am also acting as an accountant for a second company, and have advised them to not switch to Quickbooks for payroll. I'm pretty sure I will be finding another solution and cancelling this Quickbooks subscription in the next week.
I wanted a solution that would quickly and easily pull in data from banks and process payroll and provide basic accounting features, with enough flexibility to allow me to manually adjust entries easily. But there is nothing easy or powerful about Quickbooks Online. It is the perfect combination of glitchy and restrictive.
Honestly I can't say a single thing I liked. I found it hard to use
Ha! For starters I hate how they pull in the transactions from PayPal. Talk about confusing. I'm also not a fan of how transactions are imported from your bank, and how you can place them into categories. It's hard for me to explain. Compared to Wave Quickbooks is a mess and hard to use. The first chance I had I went back to Wave which is free (though support is slow).
The benefit is that it makes tracking your spending easier, and makes tax time easier for you and your accountant. For us it just made things harder.
I like the ease of use to be able to bill, collect payments and access on the go.
I do not like not being able to create progress billin for customers. This is essential in construction and this software does not currently allow for it.
On the go and easy access to accounting information and billing.
QB has good reporting capabilities that allows a business to extract information, customize reporting, and keep track of expenses by customer. It looks good and wants to be first class.
Intuit tries to lock a business into their own payment processing solution and lacks the flexibility to link to other gateways. However, as a corporation they are also very risk adverse and have shut down payment processing for multiple clients and for my own CPA firm (go figure). As a result I have a very hard time recommending the platform for a serious business, but it's probably fine for a self-employed entrepreneur with low volume or just starting out. Additionally, there is a problem with the dashboard that results in inaccurate reporting of income/expenses for the month. Multiple calls to support revealed that Intuit is working on the issues. Bottom line, the user has to run reports instead of relying on the dashboard for accurate information.
This is a decent entry level bookkeeping solution to get clients organized and start to keep books for their business.
